Spring 2
Welcome back! In English, this half term, we are reading When The Giant Stirred: The Legend of a Volcanic Island where we will be looking at use of inverted commas, description and developing our sentences. In maths we are working on length and perimeter and we had great fun throwing and measuring paper aeroplanes with one flying an impressive 5m 80 cm! Our topic is Egyptians where we will be researching where they lived, what life was like and gods and goddesses. We are all excited to be learning about mummification and finding out more about the pyramids! Science, this half term, will focus on States of Matter; learning how to identify solids, liquids and gases and compare their properties. Pupils will explore, changes in state through investigating the effect of heating and cooling and how this plays a part in the water cycle. In French, Birch Class will be looking at Mon Corps – learning the vocabulary to name parts of their face and body and using this knowledge to help them sing: Tête, épaules, genoux et pieds. R.E. explores the concept of how Jesus is portrayed in art around the world and how this affects how people view him. The children are focusing on a poem called the Windrush Child by John Agard in their poetry unit.
Reading and Times Tables
‘The more you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.’
We regard reading as high importance in Clutton and encourage children to read as often as possible. This year we will be continuing to use Boom Reader as an online reading diary. Please ensure that your child reads 4-7 times a week and this is recorded on Boom Reader. Children who met this expectation will have an additional play once a week where children who need to catch up on their reading will have the opportunity to do so.
Times tables
This half term there will also be homework set on TT Rockstars where you child will have 3 tests to complete each week. These are very quick but please ensure that your child completes them as they will help with their rapid recall. They will be set on Monday to be completed by the Sunday to start again on the Monday.
Your child can also practise using other games/apps or orally if preferred.
Please also ensure that your child has a bottle of water in school daily.
Thank you for your continued support, If you have any queries, then please see us at the end of the school day or contact us.
